Crunches – Martial Arts Strength Training

This page looks at the strength training exercise known as crunches. This is a martial arts exercise used to build up core strength (i.e. ab, oblique & lower back muscles). Crunches also improve rotation power (“torquing” power) and thus help martial arts kicking and punching strength. Some martial artists also work on their core strength in order to better absorb blows (i.e. strikes to the stomach). Crunches are a key core exercise used in most martial arts schools and dojos.
