Dutch Kickboxing

Dutch Kickboxing was formally developed in the 1970s and is often seen as a modified version of Muay Thai. The primary difference between Dutch Kickboxing and Muay Thai is the prohibition of elbow strikes and the limited use of knees strikes (i.e. knee strikes can only be used against the body in Dutch Kickboxing). However, elbow strikes can be utilized in Dutch Kickboxing matches if both opponents agree to permit this technique prior to the match. While utilizing many Muay Thai derived techniques, Dutch Kickboxing also incorporates techniques from Kyokushin Karate and Boxing.

Dutch Kickboxing is a well-known European martial arts style due to the success of various Dutch Kickboxing practitioners at a number of important martial arts events (i.e. K-1 events). Dutch Kickboxing is also known as “Dutch Rules” Kickboxing.
