This page explore various martial arts belts and their associated ranks & levels. It covers Karate, Taekwondo, BJJ, Judo and many more. Be aware that many martial arts have multiple organizations and schools with differing belt systems. We have tried to list the common belt systems used at major organizations within each individual martial arts style.
As you aware, most martial arts styles use belt levels in order to reflect a student’s experience and proficiency. The belts are usually awarded after taking an appropriate level belt test and a required time duration of study. In many traditional martial arts styles, students must learn a new kata or form as well as a variety of techniques (i.e. kicks or punches) before being awarded a new belt.
